Information for donors

For aspiring musicians, pursuing a musical education entails more than just tuition fees; it encompasses essential living expenses like food, transport, accommodation and medical needs. Additionally, young musicians aiming to excel in their craft often require financial assistance for competition entry fees, compensating fellow artists like accompanists and covering visa expenses for international competitions. Unfortunately, a large number of young South African musicians who come from disadvantaged communities do not have the financial means to cover any of the above-mentioned costs. Your support can help alleviate their financial burdens and empower promising musicians to thrive.

Financial policy

  • The financial standing of Mookodi Music Foundation is monitored by the auditors at Ease Accounting. Although the global benchmark is 30%, it is our policy not to exceed 10% of donations received for the administrative functions of the foundation.
  • We can provide donors with a letter from Ease Accounting, confirming your donation. However, it would depend on your governments’ revenue departments whether you will enjoy a tax benefit from your donation.
  • The allocation of grants are based on financial need, the applicant’s potential as an artist and their academic standing.
  • The size and allocation of grants are subject to the availability of funds in the Mookodi Music Foundation’s bank account.

Your donation will be used for, among others:

Tuition fees for private lessons or tertiary education

Fostering the musical development of high school learners
who wish to study music in future (eg, remuneration for facilitators of master classes and work shops)

Accommodation (for tertiary students)

Meals (for tertiary students, eg, contributing to a foodbank)

Transport (for learners, students, facilitators)

Books and upkeep of instruments

Medical expenses (for tertiary students who do not have medical aid)

Entry fees for national and international competitions

Costs for master classes and workshops

Cost of recordings required for other grants and for competitions

R590 per 1 hour lesson ($30; €32; SEK347)

Professional fee for facilitators of master classes and workshops

R500 per hour ($30; €25; SEK294)

How can you contribute?

You can donate any amount that you feel would contribute
to the development of a young South African musician.

You can decide whether to make a smaller monthly payment or a
once-off annual donation.
